New 'Il n'est chance qui ne retourne
Ashton, this is so sadly true. Sometimes you only get one day to make a decision in which to make a change. Our day was Nov 2, 2004.

To quote Mr. Bush:

"We had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 elections," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post. "The American people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates, and chose me."

He knew very well that if he made it past that date, nothing could touch him for four more years. Of course he can take 'full responsibility' for the way the recent emergency was handled, because he's untouchable now. You can pile anything and everything on him, and he'll just shrug - because he knows we can't do anything to him.

My 2 cents: The next time we're given an opportunity to change things, take it, because we may not get another chance for years. Don't assume things can somehow be 'worked out' in the interim.
New I'm still hoping for our "grassy knoll moment"
"I'm man enough to tell you that I can't put my finger on
exactly what my philosophy is now, but I'm flexible."
-- Malcolm X
New Re: I'm still hoping for our "grassy knoll moment"
Apart from the fact that a statement like that will probably be indictable thoughtcrime by 2009 if it's not already, it's probably a bad idea in principle to rely on the "lone crazed gunman" as an integral component of one's system of checks and balances.

cordially,
Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist.
New In principle, agree re the 'tactic'.
But as to indictability of the above utterance:

If one('s attorney) quoted a %tiny of the scurrilous invective of the Far-Rightful, only as far back as the dastardly epithets re Clinton: asserting (not querying re) his ordering the faked-suicide of that strung-out aide; if one recorded a %tiny of the Tee Vee preachers' epithets for anyone (a massive laundry list) whomsoever Believeth-not prethithely-ath-doth Our little thplinter-group:

I doubt that this suggestion comes even close to the daily 'community speech Valuez' in certain large Red arid areas of Thith Great Nation\ufffd of Invective\ufffd.

(That is - IF... attorneys were still allowed into that 2009 trial?)
I might stand corrected, likely post-mortem early-on in ~'07, at present rates of dissolution.

New Why not? Lee Harvey Oswald Did!
Just ask the Warren commission!

New Absolute monarchy tempered by regicide?
It's certainly been done before...
Have whatever values you have. That's what America is for.
You don't need George Bush for that.
New Slightly different take on one line:
dmcarls said (quite aptly):
You can pile anything and everything on him, and he'll just shrug - because he knows we can't do anything to him.

I think recent event has fine tuned this statement. It should now read:
You can pile anything and everything on him, and he'll just shrug - because he just doesn't give a shit.
