Speaking of which ...
Anyone have a recommendation for Windows Jabber server? We're looking at setting up IM internally, and want something where the communication doesn't leave our network. Looking at Jabber and Windows Messenger for now. They're open to Jabber, but I'd like to know someone's installed it on Windows before I make too strong a recommendation.

Here you go
[link|http://www.tipic.com/|http://www.tipic.com/]
I have no idea how well it works; this is just Googlism.
Cheap as chips, too; $500 for 50 users.
It's more expensive than running jabberd, but you'll run up $500 in time spent quicker than you can say knife if you try and get THAT going on Windows.
On Linux, of course, it's about 20 minutes from zero to hero, and that assumes you've never done it before.

Don't know if cost is an issue
Okay, it's always an issue. What I meant is how much of an issue.

So I take it you need a Gmail account?
Oops. Just read further down. You sure do.
So is this a good reason for me to add yet another email account (YEEA)?
I've got four already and I'm on the low side compared to some others here.

Sorry...
I neither have nor want a GMail account. To chat with folks here, the IWT Jabber server (or, for that matter, any of the other IM clients to which I'm connected) will suffice.

Why are you apologising?
We don't mind if you don't want to be one of the cool kids.

'Twas more a reminder...
...that we have our own Jabber server, and people need not succumb to the viral marketing that is GMail just to chat with others.

Pretty much ditto.
True, I like having access to my email from anywhere I have web access. And I would get that with gmail. But I also have that with my current email. And it's my own domain. And I can have as many addresses as I like. And I have filesystem access to the mailbox.
Gmail doesn't appeal.
