New wonder what would happen if appleworks was ported to winders
My Dreams arn't as empty as my concience seems to be
New I used to have ClarisWorks for Windows - same thing, innit?
On and on and on and on,
and on and on and on goes John.
New Clarisworks became Appleworks with version 5
with simultaneous releases for windows and mac os. Version 5 added a presentation package which was very easy to use but unfortunately can't read or write PPTs. (I predict PPT compatibility will be the last battleground of Office-alternatives.)

Latest version is Appleworks 6.2.2 - So far I think Mac-only.

Under OS X it seriously rocks (Starts up fast and reads/writes Word&Excel files) and does everything I need for my work.

The man gave a shrug which indicated that, although the world did indeed
have many problems, this was one of them that was not his.

New Gobe Productive
The team that wrote ClarisWorks (aka AppleWorks) have a new office suite of thier own out: [link|http://www.gobe.com/|Gobe Productive]. It started on BeOS and now there is a Windows version, with a Linux version to come. I've played with the previous BeOS version. It looked pretty good for the basics. It could do things like arbitrarily rotated embedded translucent spreadsheets in WP documents for what its worth.

  1. I've read it before; and
  2. I ignored it and marked it read the first time.
