Roaming Profiles in M$ == Zen Profiles in Novell.
Since you are an education account you should be able to get ZEN for pennies.
Go get ZEN and be happy.
Profiles DON'T have to even *BE* created either. When a Student logs in, you can force a default profile and personalize it with a "homedir" which all setting and junk are kept rather than c:\\Docs-n-settings\\blah\\blah\\blah
Or another way is to keep all per user stuffs (docs and IE cache and firefox cache etc), in a HOMEDIR and actually use roaming profiles period. Many forced settings are easy to accomplish with ZEN (or NAL as it was called).
NAL is not a bear to tangle with, once you "get" its functionality you can rollout whole labs without even having a tech be there. Just have the local College Work Study restart the computers. *IF* you have PXE capable and/or setup... golden are you.
PXE allows you to "maintain" machines without tech interaction.
MUCH MUCH MUCH has to be done to statr with, but remember this, NAL/ZEN builds upon what you already have existing. It can change/mold your setup if you grok it.
