The guy is QA
It's his job to be a meathead. This particular one is overdoing it a bit, but in general, programmers are bad QA because when they see an (unrelated) bug, they instinctively try to work around it rather than stop the test and log a failure. QAs must be good at stopping and complaining rather than at working around problems.
