New Re: good job
That thinking (you're never really an ex-smoker, you're just temporarily not smoking) still persists; I once gave up for 18 months!

Hence the "provisionally" ;-)

And yes, I've got a nose for it now; I can tell if SWMBO had a smoke at lunchtime when she comes in from work five hours later.

Use P2P for legitimate purposes!
New Ditto getting a nose for it.

Growing up with a stay-at-home mom who was (and still is) a 3-pack-a-day smoker, I never noticed it. Now when I go home for a few days I can smell the smoke as soon as I walk into the house, and have to immediately do a load of laundry when I get back, to get the smell off my clothes.

New Know exactly what you mean
Your mom sounds like my mom. I remember driving in the car as a kid with my shirt pulled over my nose while mom puffed away in the car. And she's still puffing away, between the hits of oxygen she needs for her emphysema and congestive heart failure. My Dad smoked, too, and didnt quit until he became a quad from the MS. Funny how that works.

Good for you for quitting, Peter! I never smoked, thanks to my parents. Call it aversion therapy. In college I would occassionally light one up to piss off my roommate, who had allergies worse than mine. Ahh, good times.
