The decline and fall of the Left in America
The power of the Left as a political force has rested on a tripod of three Big Lies. They are, first, that liberal Western civilization can do no good and is to blame for all the world's evils, second, that Marxist Leninist states can do no wrong, and third, that the Left has the answers to the world's problems. The thing about Big Lies is they have a fatal weakness: they cannot survive exposure to unfiltered information. In the face of raw facts, all Big Lies crumble, and ultimately collapse. The three Big Lies of the Left have been crumbling in America for quite some now. The problem for the Left is that we have an open society, where the flow of information can never be completely controlled. They have survived by seizing or influencing choke points - where the flow can be partially controlled, and where a sort of imperfect censorship can be attempted, and where that which can't be censored away can be spun beyond recognition. There have been four choke points used by the Left: the universities, the news media, popular entertainment, and the Democratic party. Despite what many on the right allege, the Left's control over these institutions has never been absolute. But at one time it was strong enough to do real damage. This control is slipping, and the Left in America is now facing the abyss... [link|http://marlowe-essays.blogspot.com/2005/02/decline-and-fall-of-left-in-america.html|Continued at blogger.com]

Strawman much?
Blogs are usually a terrible forum for conversation.
Why don't you defend your ideas here?
Cheers, Scott.

The Left? In America? Did I miss a meeting?
There never was, is or will be a left wing in American politics that would ever be recognised as such outside her borders.

Bwahaha!
"liberal Western civilization can do no good and is to blame for all the world's evils" Um. So the Left thinks that being liberal is to blame for everything. You mean, of course, the Right. "the Left has the answers to the world's problems." Ah, now I KNOW you mean the Right. "The thing about Big Lies is they have a fatal weakness: they cannot survive exposure to unfiltered information. In the face of raw facts, all Big Lies crumble, and ultimately collapse." Yup, confirmed - the Right again - at least if you measure things by the Bush junta. That's why this regime has been so set on restricting free press, and even the ability of the people to protest in public (can you say "free speech zones"). "The problem for the Left is that we have an open society, where the flow of information can never be completely controlled. They have survived by seizing or influencing choke points - where the flow can be partially controlled, and where a sort of imperfect censorship can be attempted, and where that which can't be censored away can be spun beyond recognition." Yes, this IS a problem for the Bush regime. This is why they were forced make military and religious issues the focal point for the past elections, even though the ostensible Commander in Chief has serious credibility problems because of his 'service' and that one of the greatest security lapses in US history occured on his watch, right after one of his many vacations - they have far more control over the information made public about the war. After all, its hard to argue that the economy is just fine when the MAJORITY of the people are worse off than they were 4 years ago. You should take this shtick on the road! You're HILARIOUS!

Lies? Like the 2005 Budget?
The one that doesn't bother to include the $80Bill for the Iraq boondoggle?
Yeah, that's real honesty.
