New Terribly excessive
I've saw another version of this story with a few more details, and the kids apparently where using the drawings to threaten the kid they drew. But arresting them is still terribly excessive.

If the kids that drew the pictures where using them to threaten somebody then they should be suspended for a week or so, assuming this is the first problem. If the pictures where just jokes or some idle time wasting then a week of after school suspensions seems more in order to me.

Sadly, given the horrible over reactions of schools when I went, this doesn't surprise me in the least. Schools are unwilling to address any but the worse problems. And when they do have to face up to a problem, they over react. Indiscriminantly expelling students and bringing in police and other stuff.

Jay
New Worse than that.
Schools are afraid to address ANY problems now and regularly involve the police now.

We expect them to help develop children and then hamstring them through legal wrangling into giving up and handing the ball to the "real" authorities.

It started in the high schools and looks like, at least in FL that this has made it doen to 4th grade.

Beyond stupid. There are no words to describe just how stupid.

New Can't blame them, really.
Two things: one, they're afraid of getting sued. Two, it's probably written into their insurance coverage that they do it they way they do.

Over the last couple of years, I've become convinced that the insurance firms have become a blight upon our society. That this has happened, however, is not really their fault; they were simply acting rationally. The real fault for this lies at the feet of the judiciary, specifically in the civil court system.

New Insurance.. is that not just another Corporation?
Imagine.. when parents don't 'parent'; schools fail at 'in loco parentis' -- and Cops do what they do (as in Iraq: where Soldiers don't make even very good Cops, let alone 'teachers of democratic ideas').

So then - one might just abdicate all responsibility to that entity which makes bizness Easiest: Ask your local Corporation to deal with it. all.
