New Q - Can the defense advance a failed extra point to score?
If so, how many points are awarded?

Is the rule the same in the NFL and college? Canadian?

New IANASE
I am not a sports expert,

On the Extra point, the ball is "dead" and cannot be returned for a score by the opposing team. The opposing team can only "prevent" the extra point(s).

Field goal attempts and punts, the ball is alive and can be blocked and returned.

Edit - type in subject line.

New As others have said...
In the NFL, no, the defending team cannot score off of an extra point.

To answer your other question, the rule differs between NCAA football and the NFL. In college, the defending team CAN advance the ball and score a touchdown off of a botched extra point (or two-point conversion) attempt.

New Re: As others have said...
In college, it's 2 points, not a TD, I think. Don't know about pros.

New Thats what I think
Not sure though...but I think in NCAA it can be returned for a 1 point "safety".

New Yeah, you're right
It is a 2-point safety. Been too long since I've actually seen one.

I just tried to look it up to be sure in the [link|http://www.ncaa.org/library/rules/2004/2004_football_rules.pdf|official NCAA Football Rules PDF], but I have real work to do.
