Well, while a lot of power elite types thought Iraq had
lotsa weapons, almost nobody else did.
That included the people, US military all, who were in charge of the containment program for Iraq.
That also included almost every non-US news outlet I perused. The then-PM of Canada also thought the evidence to be completely bogus; while he was right in there in Afghanistan, he declined to take part in Iraq, which prompted some very strong words (including "economic fallout" and "stronger border controls") from the US government, both directly from the admin folks in Washington and the US ambassador to Canada. A lot of other people found it unconvincing, including the UN's own weapons inspectors.
Your leaders are out of touch with reality. I suspect that Kerry is also out of touch with reality, but not nearly as pathologically as the current administration is.
