Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I seem to recall something that said...
...no Senator has been elected President. Dunno where, though...

shrub\ufffdbish (Am., from shrub + rubbish, after the derisive name for America's 43 president; 2003) n. 1. a form of nonsensical political doubletalk wherein the speaker attempts to defend the indefensible by lying, obfuscation, or otherwise misstating the facts; GIBBERISH. 2. any of a collection of utterances from America's putative 43rd president. cf. BULLSHIT

New Lots of counter examples.
I assume you mean sitting Senator. I think there are several examples - E.g. Harrison, Harrison, JFK. There are many more who have been US Senator and become President.

A list of presidential occupations is [link|http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0768854.html|here].

Cheers,
Scott.
New Just a note to Dan...
AScott's list points out that Bush the First was previously a US Congressman.

New Re: Just a note to Dan...
Duly noted. I stand corrected. Maybe I should rephrase as Scott suggested, "standing" national Senator/Congressman.

I was just wondering about the implications. The obvious is that we don't trust anyone who has been in Washington too long (maybe justly). We also really don't care about foreign policy experience as much as the major parties would like for us to.

The interesting sidenote for me, given the change, is "is this a lingering result of Watergate?" in the national psyche. It doesn't bode well for Kerry/Edwards in '04 nor McCain or Clinton in '08. Just pondering out loud.
Just a few thoughts,

Danno
New Yes...thank you for the clarification of the memory haze!
