New Not a good day for IWETHEYers, sounds like.
I had a brief, intense disagreement with reality over the number of stairs outside our apartment this morning.

Naturally, reality won.

I twisted my right ankle, and a nurse-in-training at work said I had a "soft tissue injury", which I think means I sprained my ankle.

Just call me gimpy for a few weeks, k?
What will we do when we are Gods?

Be careful with that ankle, baby it when you can.

I haven't told IWT this, but I recently learned I have tendonitis in my shoulder/upper arm. First we thought it was a torn rotator cuff, but I found out it wasn't, just tendonitis in the rotator cuff. Whew. And believe it or not, it developed from the injury I caused to it in MARCH, because I didn't do more to baby it.

Anyway, I'm on celebrex, and the doctor told me to baby it this time, and believe me, that's hard to do.

Hope your ankle feels better soon.

New Do what I did
After we got home, we hugged and prayed as a family, then whipped up a large pitcher of strong strawberry daquiri's, warmed up the hot tub, and am now feeling quite nice :D

New Heat might be bad
When I jiggered my knee, whilst out running, I made the mistake of NOT icing it, but instead getting into a nice hot bath.

While this felt good at the time, it didn't do anything to take down the swelling and this meant I spent a good couple of weeks longer than I needed to being gimpy.

Stuff That Worked For Me:

1. Ibuprofen. Excellent pain relieve, got the swelling down.
2. Neoprene knee brace. Did it up nice and tight, kept me mobile and at work.

New take it easy
ice it and treat it gently. Be careful not to do anything you'll regret (more). Here's an idea. Put it up on a cushion and prop a book up on your leg...

Relish your mere sprained ankle..

A friend was coming down a flight of steps at work, one we were so used-to that no one ever noticed them anymore. Maybe he was glancing at some papers...

He thought he had reached ground floor, but he was one step shy (amazing *stuff happens when brain thinks: OK, it is Flat Now). The jar on "landing one stair off the ground" screwed up his spine, apparently permanently.. always twinges and such.

We are an unimaginable mixture of bullet-proof and glass-fragile (like Doze). ie Lucky You!

* few ever even vaguely notice the complexity of mere 'walking' - we are always in a "controlled fall-forward", making gyroscopic calcs referenced to our perceived CG, the traction we think we have and a passel of other corrections. These matters were once pointed out to me by a 'kinesiologist' and I try not to forget them, especially when groping in the dark.. Gravity is a nasty-OT-style bearded Lurker, kinda like a late-night preacher. (It helps to model The Enemy ;-)
New Walking is not a stable activity, no.
I've sorta followed research into AI on and off over the years. Early attempts to make a walking robot required at least four legs, preferably six, so that it was stable when one foot was off the ground. But humans are nothing if not persistent and someone came up with a way for a two-legged robot to walk, provided it constantly and carefully rebalanced itself in the process. Then they realized that natural walking is a process of continuous controlled rebalancing. IOW, a walker is constantly falling and recovering by putting the next foot on the ground.

the couch/pillow/book suggestion is right on the money. That's how you make sure that you don't screw your mobility in your old age.

Rest your foot at work as much as possible. Elevate it if you can, that's even better.

Hopefully they will be accomodating and not ask you to run errands all day or something. :) (Remembering when I used to trek ALL over the campus of the college I worked at... man, that would not have worked with a bum foot).
