New Something that may perk you up...
Even though the Office Suite issue is all but dead, their is still a little life in WordPerfect. At least the commercials are entertaining...

New Requires YAN video streamer
Macromedia Flash 7 in this case...

shrub\ufffdbish (Am., from shrub + rubbish, after the derisive name for America's 43 president; 2003) n. 1. a form of nonsensical political doubletalk wherein the speaker attempts to defend the indefensible by lying, obfuscation, or otherwise misstating the facts; GIBBERISH. 2. any of a collection of utterances from America's putative 43rd president. cf. BULLSHIT

New Yes, it's annoying, isn't it?

New Amazingly tasteless display
Let's see: sadistic boss, stupid parody, jocks beating nerds, clown in the funeral house.

The first three, in addition to being tasteless, manage to annoy the target audience.

-- Patrick O'Brian, "Master and Commander"
New I loved it!
New The portrayal of Clippy in the first one was spot on
The others didn't do anything for me.

That was lovely cheese.

     --Wallace, The Wrong Trousers
New Yes, the Clippy was great
Cut the beginning, cut the end - the middle was good, I agree.

"...was poorly, lugubrious and intoxicated."

New Clippy was great.
I got a minor chuckle here and there with the others. Mostly though, I noticed how crappy the setup and delivery was. Even (especially?)tasteles jokes need something called timing.

It is much harder to be a liberal than a conservative. Why?
Because it is easier to give someone the finger than it is to give them a helping hand.
Mike Royko
New Well, what do you expect?
WP isn't exactly a high budget company anymore... I don't know what the tie in is with Corel, but I receive their electronic newsletter (which included this link). I could seriously relate to the Clippy add in that I have been doing a major MFAC presentation (on Powerpoint, of course) this whole week and I would have loved to have whupped Clippy's ass on a number of occasions.

I also have a soft spot for the babies/toddlers one. Guess it's 'cause I still got young ones. But I see a similarity in the mannerisms of babes and corporate execs. Had they put the clowns in the boardroom it would have been more appropo...

New It doesn't play on my machine :-(
To deny the indirect purchaser, who in this case is the ultimate purchaser, the right to seek relief from unlawful conduct, would essentially remove the word consumer from the Consumer Protection Act

New Re: It doesn't play on my machine :-(
Sorry 'bout that... What is your machine? Does it not support a common media player like Flash?

I mean, mine is a Mac OSX Panther box running Camino (a Mozilla build) with Flash. Are you still using Lynx? I mean, I don't complain about all the links posted here that are asking for my email address to major metro newspapers... Now do I? ;-)

There is a lot of content on the WWW in 2004. Mayhaps you should explore the possibility of checking some of it out.

New Yes, there sure is..
But upgrading beyond ~ 6.0 for many of these kewl 'players' requires even more of crapware getting installed in trays, trying to Call Home. Flash players may be (so far immune) -?- HTF would I know..

But for Ex: Even Real Player 6.0.10 (if I can't do the thing w/Quicktime) rechecks the Start-up program list for bloody "Upgrades + new toys", every time it's used. I must then remember to uncheck the fucking box before shutdown. yada And as for the Beast equivalent.. even more incestuous interactions, I hear.

On this one, I get a box with 'pause' or 'rewind' icons, blank screen even after a certain amount of d/l activity -- yet my current Flash player does most of the stuff I care to see. (I don't get even an "Upgrade to blah" message.)

Thanks, some of us will pass. I prefer KISS to cleaning up the spewings of these Ad-infused recent dodgy releases. One needs an expendable, separate junk-tolerating machine for frequent RRR or the willingness to find out what each one is trying to do to you, rather than for you. That I do not deem 'fun'; others may.

New Realplayer Enterprise
[link|http://forms.real.com/rnforms/products/tools/red/|http://forms.real.co...oducts/tools/red/]

It's RealPlayer, minus the overt adverts and crapware, other than being a RealPlayer in the first place. I deploy it internally when somebody has to see a realplayer stream for work purposes.

Flash and Shockwave are both (at this time) unencumbered with Extra Crap.
WANTED: Precognitive Telepath for adventuring Partnership. You know where to apply.
New Thanks,
but:

Platform: Windows NT/2000/XP

(If 98-lite ever becomes unuseable on web, likely it's Apple por moi; much as I hate the thought of learning YAN OS)

Ah well.. a friend has been using a generic player with apparent success.
As it is unencumbered, I'll likely give that one a try.
New Flash7 / Firefox / RH 9 - works
New Yeah, I've got Flash 6 here
