Worse yet, if this was training then the guards would have been on their best behavior. These things are taped* and watched by commanding officers. I deeply suspect that the MPs in this case didn't get the word that this was training, and the way they acted is SOP for detainees in Gitmo. In either case it is horrible. Is this proof that there is torture in Gitmo? No. Rather it is a smoke -> fire connection. Jay * The tape has been lost. If this surprises you in the last, slap yourself.
Post #159,291 by dmarker 6/9/04 8:30:59 PM Reply	Our Australian papers have accounts of abuse mainly related to the 2 Australians in Gitmo - the story is emerging that both were repeatedly beaten and abused (nakedness etc:). One was seen being beaten harshly in Afghanistan before he was shipped to Gitmo. According to the reports, the soldiers took an intense dislike to westerners who had joined the Taliban & this guy was made to know it. The other Oz detainee is of Arab origin & he seems to have been better treated. I think much of the case here is that there is so much smoke that there must be some fire.
