Maybe if it were paved highway all the way. As it stands, it's probably cheaper to fly there, rather than hire a 4wd & Satellite phone & radio safetry beacon etc, and buy provisions/accomodation to last the drive there and back.

By all accounts though, once you get there, the view is magnificent.
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.

New Uluru
Great place to visit.
Went there many years ago as a kid.
Was amongst the last few able to camp at the rock itself.
Check out the following picture for the rock being rained on.
Doesn't happen too often.
