Just from a perspective of troop numbers, this isn't anything to get concerned over. Especially with an additional 3,000 ROK troops coming in to Iraq. From a geopolitical perspective, this is slightly more significant. One of only six members of the Coalition of the Willing from South America opts out. Of the five countries left, how many can remember U.S. "aid" in the direction of their previous governments?
I also understand that Honduras left only because of the pullout of Spain (Honduran troops had been under Spanish Commmand and Control). I don't know, but I would suspect that most of the other small contingents from South America were also attached in a significant manner to Spanish units and may soon be recalled.
Secondarily I think the growing disenchantment with the Bush admin's justifications for invading Iraq and evident lack of planning for post war realities combined with the memory of the U. S. running roughshod over our Southern neighbors not so long ago breeds a certain desire to "stick it to 'em".
Just my opinion.
