Myself, I draw a major distinction
between businesses that are O/O by a local person(s), and large public corporations. I think it has to do with the fact that the owner is not divorced from the local community, and not divorced from the ownership effect in the way that management is at a large public firm. It's the fundamental difference between being an owner and just a manager... sometimes they are the same person, sometimes they're not... and the difference is large.
