Press release: Kerry looks forward to the next 9/11
[link|http://www.johnkerry.com/pressroom/releases/pr_2004_0315.html|He's practically salivating for it]
Excerpt:
Kerry Offers Agenda to Support Front Lines in America\ufffds War on Terror at Home and Abroad Washington, DC \ufffd Today in remarks to the International Association of Fire Fighters legislative conference, John Kerry outlined his aggressive agenda to support America\ufffds front lines at home and abroad in the War on Terror.
Announcing that his goal is not just victory in November, but the day when every firefighter gets the equipment and support they need \ufffd and the respect and honor they\ufffdve earned, Kerry outlined his comprehensive plan to ensure our first responders are prepared and that our homeland is secure.
\ufffdAmerica doesn\ufffdt need leaders who play politics with 9-11 or see the War on Terror as just another campaign issue. Our nation\ufffds safety is too important. If I am President, we will work toward victory in the War on Terror knowing that those on the frontlines of this battle are heroes, not political props. The needs of our first defenders must never be left for last.
I say:
"Aggressive?" Only if "aggressive" means doing nothing to prevent attackers from reaching our shores in the first place. Also, he seems to use the phrase "first defenders" to mean what any sane person would consider the last line of defense. Does he really mean that there are to be no lines of defense before these? It's a horrifying thought, but it's the only way to make sense of this press release as a whole.
Once you parse the Orwellian abuse of language here, the meaning is clear. He's planning for another attack on our soil. Not as a contingency to be guarded against. It's his only scenario. Aside from vague talk of proliferation as the flimsiest of token gestures, he expresses not the slightest intention of even trying to forestall it. The man is morally insane.
Gives a whole new meaning to "bring it on" - doesn't it? Why have our boys dying by the twos and threes in Iraq when we can have civilians dying by the thousands right here at home?
This could charitably be called a "defensive" emphasis. I call it treason and acting as an accessory to mass murder.

how are your hemmorroids today? feeling better?
The only treason is yours, denying soldiers at the front in Iraq things like body armour, while removing funds from local communities that need to beef up mass response to emergencies. thanx, bill

I was thinking much the same thing.
The ranting of the PhilBot seems to suffer from the same disconnect that many "party faithful" have been accused of - optimistically calling for "Great Sacrifice" by the common man, and not giving him the tools to actually achieve his goals, then blaming him for failing his task.
Next thing you know, we'll be handing out one rifle for every two soldiers, and telling the other one to pick up the rifles of the fallen...

You have me confused with somebody else.
That's Clinton's army.

you have had it for 3 years bucko, plenty of time to get the
gear, and as of today the troops are asking their moms back home to get it at sporting goods stores and ship it. Typical commie, the troops will find their own gear. thanx, bill

A couple points...
1) Clinton didn't need an army. 2) Bush started Iraq (an elective war) without preparing properly. On the other paw, he could not have told the nation that he was about to bankrupt the country to do a little empire building for his patrons. Being unprepared belongs 100% to Crusader Bunnypants(I forget which IWETHEYer called him that but I've never been able to forget it).

Wow
That is the most idiotically partisan post I have seen in ages, if ever.
Because Kerry is proposing to hire, train and equip more first responders then Bush, it means that Kerry is looking forward to another terrorist attack.
I suppose you think the soldiers in Iraq that are complaining about the lack of body armor and armored cars have a defeatist attitude about getting shot also.

I can't wait to see him spin this one.
If he ever does, that is.

Most idiotically deliberate missing of the point.
I was perfectly clear. It's not what he proposes to do. It's what he *doesn't* propose to do.
This is grown up talk. If you can't be intelligent, please go to your room and be quiet.

Oh, now I get it
Because Kerry is not proposing starting another war, he isn't agressive enough against terrorism.
You would rather he does what Bush has done, ignore the first responders here and launch attacks against terrorists in other countries. This way he can generate a lot of press, while creating more terrorists and insuring that when an attack does reach the US we won't be prepared to deal with it.

Another Interesting Post!
Wow, I'm totally convinced! What a rat that Kerry must be beneath that war-hero, plain-talking, genuine-concern, common sense, non-simian facade of his! Thanks for clearing it up for me, Marlowe.
I've felt for a while now that Marlowe's been using us as a beta testing ground for spin. Most of it clearly needs fine-tuning before it can usefully be released to the public, but this one, springing Athena-like in full armor from the prodigious brain of the Zeus of our time, is ready as is!
