In 730 AD he wrote Al-jabr wa'l muqabalah, a treatise os solving quadratics. Al-jabr is where the word algebra comes from. His book about how the Hindus wrote down numbers (after later being translated to Latin) is why we call 0.1....9 Arabic numerals.
