New Can anyone recommend a Data Recovery Company?
A friend of mine had a little (1.6G) hard drive crash and asked me to recommend a data recovery company. I had used one once many years ago. I'd give you more info about the drive, but I don't have any.

Thanks in advance.

New Be prepared for a potentially high pricetag
A number of years ago I had a 4GB SCSI Seagate Barracuda die on me all of a sudden after the warranty period was over. (That really hurt considering how much the drive cost me to buy.) No backups of course. Running OS/2 HPFS. I took it to a recovery place here in Toronto, a good one, and was quoted $2500 for recovery of anything useful. If they couldn't get anything that I wouldn't have been charged. I figured that $2500 was too steep for me.

New Thanks.
This really is a friend of mine and I already warned him that it was going to be expensive. I note that ontrack.com lets you fill in parameters and then some goober will call you with a quote. For my purposes, that'll be good enough and I can let my buddy make the call on whether he wants to part with that much cash.

Man, the prices have really gone up! It was years ago that I sent a drive off somewhere in California for a client (a tiny one by today's standards - 700Meg). Back then it cost me a couple hundred bucks and we got back around 70% of the data.

New Re: Thanks.
When you need them, you *need* them. At a previous gig, one of our salesmen had the info for a multi-million pound contract when his laptop disk died. Paying \ufffd1000 to get it back was a small price to pay.
