New California to ban smoking in prisons
[link|http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?type=healthNews&storyID=4212524§ion=news|Reuters]
The Democrat-dominated assembly passed a measure by a vote of 64 to 4 that would amend the state's penal code to bar tobacco products from prisons and youth correctional facilities. Violators are subject to a $200 fine for a first-time violation and $1,000 for a third offense.

I don't know if this is a good idea or not. On the one hand, the medical savings could be substantial. But the corruption and control problems that result from keeping them out might offset it.

New Isn't that like banning money?

New Not to mention the riots
Banning smoking in prisons has been tried before. It's a bad idea.

New Re: California to ban smoking in prisons
Why don't we lock them in 8x8x8 rooms with luminescent white walls, floor, and ceiling, of exactly the same brightness. They will never have darkness, never have company, never have anything to hear or read or see, a cup of sugar water a day spiked with amphetamine so they never sleep. The seams of the door and subsistence slot will be so perfectly made that even that will be invisible. A featureless, soundless, empty world, with sound absorbing walls, so they can't even hear their own screams.

Let them shit and piss on the floor and live in it for a week at a time - something at least to bide the time, making snowmen from feces.

Let the shadows of this insane society fall only on them - and then sing songs for the death of children.

New in a white room
OK to the 8x8x8 glowing sensory sink if you throw in a pack of smokes each day: I daresay there'd be takers if the rest of the prison is nicotine-free.

New I Know.. whatcha Mean
(something which should be 'said' only rarely - since it's so often Way wide)

You are obliquely referring to the Ashcroftian/marlowesque mindset of simply,Plain Fucking Meanness to all *creatures (yes, animals generally & specifically are also lumped into this sentiment - by such ones) -- all creatures who don't see 'the world' Eggzackly As Do I (and Jesus... Who Tells Me every day How Exactly-Like-Him I Am Becoming cha cha cha)

And no 'words' can shake Their Faith in Solipsism, for They Possess Objective Moralness cha and cha.
