Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Web Site critique
I've revamped my personal site at [link|http://guildenstern.dyndns.org|http://guildenstern.dyndns.org] and would welcome criticism and suggestions.

I must thank James Bennett ([link|http://ubernostrum.dyndns.org/|http://ubernostrum.dyndns.org/]) for the HTML and CSS. No credit to me (although I did manage to write my own name in The GIMP).

New Re: Web Site critique
Nice and minimal, but I'd tweak the CSS so that the margins are cut down.

New Very nice, very clean . .
The challenge now will be not to doll it up with extraneous junk.

New Refreshingly Spartan.

New Since my screen is larger than the ordinary...
...postage stamp, I don't have a problem even with the margins.

Nice and clean layout!

(Can't say much about the content, of course, since there just isn't very much of it.)

New Very nice.
0. Very good choice of colors overall; it has a nice integrated look and a good design.

1. Not every browser yet likes colors specified in the abbreviated format, so you should probably continue to write #336699 instead of #369.

2. .ahem? :D

3. I'm not personally a fan of #dbecf1 ;) I tend to prefer matte colors for broad strokes like background colors. A handy trick to produce such is to specify equal differences between R-G-B, colors like #DDEEFF; alternately, simply vary one of the three, such as #6666FF.

4. I'd increase padding-left on #nav a bit, and use ems instead of px, since your fonts are in ems. Try 1 or 1.5 ems.

5. Do you really need comments like <!--Open header.-->?

6. There is no rule 6!

7. See if you can get your mugshot to have the same left margin as the content paragraph.

I'll just finish by saying as others have that the spartan look is refreshing. Very clean, easy to read.

New Re: Very nice.
The reason for some of the strangeness is that the page template was originally intended for a client who wanted a simple website but knew nothing about HTML. The plan was that I would deliver him some templates, fill in some of them for him, and provide instructions on how to update and add new stuff himself. So the comments, for example, are there to give him an idea of what each part of the HTML does, so that it would be easier for me to tell him "OK, to add a link to the navigation, find the list of navigation links (clearly marked in a comment)..."

Why Peter didn't take them out is beyond me. I shall have to berate him on IRC now.

Your comments about the padding are probably correct... if I were redoing the template now I'd probably just use ems everywhere. Also, I seem to recall doing something to make the picture have the correct margins, I'll have to find the original again and see what that was.
You cooin' with my bird?
New Understood. :) And welcome!
I figured it was something like that. Berate away. :D

New Not too shabby!
Some comments:
  • Cut down on the margins, especially on the LHS.
  • The IWETHEY page has "K5" as its title. Fix at once.
  • CV needs updating. ;-)
Otherwise, all good. :)
