From Piers Anthony's "Macroscope". You strip naked, let a device reverse the evolutionary process on you, turning you into protoplasmic goo. Then you and the planet you are in orbit around collapse to a singularity and then reappear in another location to reverse the process.

Hey - that's more original than usual.

Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle came up with a rather better version than usual of an old friend for The Mote In God's Eye. It involved an "as-yet undiscovered" fifth force and lines of potential between stars. Kind of like the wormhole method, but the transition had to be invoked.
