Post #130,080 by orion 12/10/03 3:44:21 PM Reply	1978 series sorry to burst your bubble, but BSG borrowed a lot from Star Wars and Lucas sued them over it. Not sure who won, I think the BSG people won, but Lucas made his point that he had the Space Opera before them. A lot of the stuff in the new series wasn't in the old series. THe old series was more simple, and used lasers/blasters a lot, and had bulky Cylons who moved slowly, controlled and built by Lizard-People. Remember Imperious Leader? He was a Lizard-Person. Now they changed it ala "The Terminator" to where humans built the Cylons, and the Cylons can look like any Human or not at all. I am also reminded a bit about elements being borrowed from Star Trek, Lost In Space, and other Sci Fi shows before BSG was written. Neither was that original, other than the step up in effects quality, that IMO being the only real similarity (besides being in the same genre). I thought the space scenes in this one borrowed alot in style from Space: Above and Beyond, Firefly, and the final battle in SW: Attack of the Clones. And it was nice to see at least an attempt at more realsitic space combat, even if typical laws of movie physics were still in near full force at times. And yeah the plot themes (robots rise to kill their masters, robots explore their emotions, enemies hidden among us, desperate journey to reach safety) are not too original. I was still entertained. I might even watch the new series if they make one. As long as they don't remake Galactica 1980. -- Chris Altmann

At first I thought that John was having a Schitzophrenic episode, until we found out about the chip implanted in his head. Farscape had it first. Many of my Traveller characters were a lot like John Crichton, wise-cracking, forced into the warrior role, having to think of a stratgegic plan. Always had nicknames for the other players. Oh it was fun. Of course my characters were like that before Farscape aired, long before it aired. One of the other players was more like Dargo, and we had a Dargo-Crichton relationship going in the game. He would get us into trouble and I had to think of a way out of trouble. :) Great minds think alike and all that. I found a lot of Traveller ideas in Farscape, so I fell in love with the series. I said "Been there, done that" a lot of times while watching it. :) If only I had the writing skill to write books based on our Traveller adventures. I could make some serious money.
