Guilty, Guilty, Guilty, Guilty
[link|http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/11/17/sprj.dcsp.muhammad.trial/index.html|John Allen Muhammad that is.] The capital murder and terrorism charges carry the death penalty as a possible sentence. The penalty phase will begin at 2:30 p.m. EST. SO I guess now its time for us to argue about how brutal and uncivilized Virginians are when they convict this man to die. Of course, he'll probably die of natural causes long before anybody gets a chance to pull the triger back.

I am just glad he was convicted and didn't find some way to get off. I think that was one of the most barbaric crime sprees I've heard of. Nightowl >8#

Nyah..... not even close.
most public maybe... but he didn't even kill that many people compared with some of the serial killers. (And their attacks were far more brutal)
Of course, I'm saying this from Florida with fried ol' Ted.

Re: Nyah..... not even close.
I didn't mean in terms of number killed, or method of killing, I know there are many many more worse that way.
I meant in the way he went about it, striking out of nowhere, causing an atmosphere of fear everywhere in the area, and choosing his victims at random, etc.

Barbaric?
Hardly. Genghis Khan was barbaric. Allen was cold and calculating and utterly without compassion for anyone. He is a perfect illustration of the end regions of the narcissism that underpins our society.
There was a piece in the Times about his slow descent into serial murder. He attempted to keep his life together with some success at first - but like all narcissists, when the "narcissistic supply" was used up, that is, when the people in his life got sick of his self-serving games, he moved on and moved on and moved on again - spiraling downward until finally all he was left with was the rage of self-recognition. The worst enemy of the narcissist is the mirror.
He could have been any of us.

Re: Barbaric?
Maybe I have the wrong word.... cold and calculating and fear-inducing is what I mean, maybe there is a better word to describe that, but I thought of barbaric.
Maybe chilling is a better word?

Ah, but who are we to judge when so many hate us?
Besides, our society let Willie Horton go free! And actually supported Whitey Bulger! Why, we're steeped in blood! Instead of condemning this man, we should all go flaggelate ourselves and beg for forgiveness while Qutb pees on us and Villepin says he told us so.
Oh, wait a minute. That doesn't actually make much sense, does it? Never mind. Fry the bastard. Then let's fry Sayyid Qutb. And flagellate Villepin.
