Interview tomorrow
Have a face-to-face with the manager of a company in Milw....for 2/3 of my normal rate, but hell...I got bills to pay, so I'm interested. Got past the Phone interview without problem...and it looks like a good fit (although I may have to brush-up on my C99).
We'll see how it goes....

Hey, Ya know what?
There were several "embedded" positions listed in the Chicago Tribune's online classifieds in O'Fallon, IL. IINM, that is sorta in your neck of the woods. Might what to give it a try.
Go to www.chicagotribune.com, click on the "jobs" tab, then under the "Search By Field" heading select "Engineering". On the Engineering page, select "Software Engineering" under "Search by Job Type" in the lower right-hand part of the page. Then select "Narrow Search by State" and select Illinois. (Or by Missouri, if you want.) You'll find the O'Fallon jobs scattered about the listings.
Warning: Most (if not all) of them are with Northrup....

I'd like one too
Sadly, I lack embedded experience - thus no interviews for me.

nod, Northrup.
I got 2 calls on the same day from two different recruiters for Java/J2EE jobs at Northrup in O'Fallon. It was nice to see that...And then I got called out to this gig in Palo Alto/Dallas that'll keep me busy for a couple more weeks.

IWETHEY.employed++
Got it!
Out of 4 people interviewed.
The contract is for (at least) 6 months, doing embedded software (mostly C, with an increasing amount of C++; they liked my C++ experience, so I think I will be in the forefront there) in the medical equipment field. I should be right at home....

Given the obvious talent in this group, I can't understand how someone like Scott, or Todd, or even you, Ben, could remain unemployed/uncontracted for as long as you/they have. It makes no sense...unless Murican Bizness has some sort of death wish.

Re: Hey, Nightowl...
Whatever happened with your interview? Well, she never called me to offer it, so I assume that my lack of experience in Access was a factor. I'm kinda relieved, because it was a bit more than I was ready for. :) I'm planning to get started learning Access soon, John has to install more of the components on the computer, first, and focus more on that now that I dropped my class. :) We did learn a lot from the interview though, my counselor and I reworded part of my resume and letter so that they adequately reflect me better, and I made a good list of questions so I come away better informed next time. Thanks for asking. Nightowl >8#

I know of a rather large medical equipment company located on the north side of Waukesha. I fly over it when I'm practicing takeoffs and landings at Waukesha airport. It's only a few miles from my office.
Hope you enjoy the commute!
