New Stories from 9/11 and beyond.

Excerpt:

The people who died on September 11 felt at home. They thought they were safe.

I say:

When it comes to safety, the burden of proof has shifted. And that's why we go into Iraq. And, I hope, a lot of other places, sooner rather than later.

We don't have to prove to anyone's satisfaction that country X is an immediate threat. Country X has to prove to our satisfaction that it isn't. We go in on probable cause. That's the rule from 9/11 on.

Americans: a pack, not a herd.
Never mind all the mass graves. Where's the nerve gas?

New Have fun.
With that kind of attitude, Americans will not be safe anywhere but America and Europe.

Job done?

New We're already safer. Terrorism on our soil is way down.
They're going strictly for soft targets now - as always, except *we're* not among the soft targets anymore. People too stupid to properly look out for themselves - regardless of ideology. So watch your back.

Only a moron argues with results.

New I must be a moron
"Only a moron argues with results."

Speaking only for myself, I don't think we can consider the desires of Osama Bin Laden to have been entirely reached. The fact that one of his central points was the removal of non-muslim troops (the American air base that was removed from Saudi Arabia) from Saudi Arabia doesn't mean we can't argue with his results.

It is much harder to be a liberal than a conservative. Why?
Because it is easier to give someone the finger than it is to give them a helping hand.

New Right.
If you don't count ELF burning up car dealerships and such on the left coast.

But then again...terrorism on our soil has always been "way down"...with a couple of major exceptions.

I wouldn't go counting those chickens quite yet.

New does attacks against our constitution count?
those are WAY the fuck up. I know you are not without thought on this, what is your feeling on attacking freedoms in the US to safeguard against terrorism, how much or which parts of the constitution are you ready to surrender? Not picking but where is your personal safety/freedom limit set at?
thanx,
bill

New Those aren't attacks, those are efforts to protect us.
bcnu,
Mikem

The soul and substance of what customarily ranks as patriotism is moral cowardice and always has been...We have thrown away the most valuable asset we had-- the individual's right to oppose both flag and country when he (just he, by himself) believed them to be in the wrong. We have thrown it away; and with it all that was really respectable about that grotesque and laughable word, Patriotism.
