Yes. Tape. Yes it is reliable to a point. Much better now vs. before.

Currently I am using a DDS4 to backup knight. 20/40GB per tape... I have an 8-tape changer.

I am just getting done setting up another backup system using CVS for a company.

Every file is checked prior to compression. It the MD5SUM has changed it backs it up. If not... well, it doesn't. ALL on 1.5TB of Disk. Current Full backup of compressed files is 4.2GB (source drive == 27GB of data) We are keeping as many revisions as disk space holds out.

Then afbackup goes and does an incremental on changes in the CVS.

So far, I have tried a few different scenarios even losing some drives. *IF* I do best practice and fix the drives first then restore... before starting pserver... all seems well.

I am also writng a Full backup every night, to another tape. So I have trevisioned and full
