New ethics of coarse
nod wisely at the bullcrap presented and repeat it during the exams and have a hard belly laugh at the gall of what is being presented unless aristotle is teaching the course. Why not comparative philosophy?
thanx,

thanx, bill<<

Well, there aren't many courses offered this semester on Philosophy. I have already taken PHIL 101, which I can't take again, I'm not interested in World Religions, and definitely not Bio-Medical Ethics. We'll get to Logic in a minute. Anyway, the description on the Ethics class reads:

"An introductory survey of basic issues and approaches in the field of ethics, with the aim of showing the relevance of philosophical inquiry to contemporary moral concerns. Questions concerning the good life, the nature and content of morality, and the relation of the individual to the standards of society will be considered."

Silverlock wrote:>>Go for the introduction. Logic. If Philosophy is the science of thinking, then Logic is the prerequisite.<<

Yikes. Logic is the last thing I would consider. I have very little logic, it's something that eludes me as much as math does, and drives me just as crazy. I would be tearing my hair out by the first week, no thanks.

Silverlock wrote:>>Point made. Those without exposure to premises and counclusions wouldn't get the point. And that should be enough. In case it's not clear, logic is not "obvious" to many. Training is helpfull though.<<

Trying to teach me logic is something that has truly failed most of the time. I seem to learn it best by accident, actually. And that applies both to Math and to basic logic, or what I most comnmonly refer to as, common sense, because I have very little. I don't think logically most of the time.

DeSitter wrote:>>I really have to disagree - unless logic is obvious, it's pointless to go on about it. So the ONE philosophy course you really need has TWO parts - metaphysics and ethics.<<

I'm not sure what metaphysics is, but it's not offered under Philosophy.

(Hmmmm Sinclair hasn't responded yet... just noticed that).

P.S. I tried three times to "quote" you all but failed, and got frustrated, so I did it this way.
"I learned to be the door, instead of the mat!" "illegitimi nil carborundum"
