New Use it or lose it
I've been too busy being Mr. Mom and taking care of my son, than learning Java, etc. I really want to, but I cannot afford the books and don't have the free time with a 4 year old son needing to be taken care of. Plus my attention span is still too short right now. I don't really see a lot of Java jobs out in my area yet, St. Louis is a Microsoft town full of Conservative Business People hard to convince them to consider using anything but Microsoft products.

New I am jealous.

...truly jealous.

New How so?
I cannot afford daycare, and he isn't ready for Pre-kindergarden yet. So the only option I have is taking care of him myself. Once he is in pre-Kindergarden, I'll have some hours to the day to myself.

I hope that the time I spend with him is time well spent and that he appreciates it later on in life.

New Are you missing anything?
If.. you'd rather be "learning Java" than this - if you *could* [?!]

I guess the Other options mentioned - just went Zooom. Again.

never mind,

A.
New I'm missing a great deal
but I chose my family over learning "SunJavaBeans.ecom.con.nyet/Perl.cgi.Apache.script" etc. FOr some reason I feel that I should be spending more time with my son than learning new programming langguages.

New Ah.. you don't get that - you Got it, then ;-)
New Ok.
I have no children of my own, though I have always wanted a family.

There ARE kids that I love, however - I've known them since they were born, and a couple years ago, I got the chance to be 'Mr. Mom' when I got engaged to thier mother and moved to MA. I was unemployed, and found the job market in central MA to be even worse than it is here and now, so I contributed by cooking, cleaning and taking care of the kids. The worst thing that has EVER happened to me was when things went bad between thier mom and I, and I was torn away from them. Only recently has thier mother relented and allowed contact again (they've missed me *smile*).

In short, money and employment may make life easier, but what you HAVE (your family) really does make life worthwhile. FORGETTING THIS IS A STEP TOWARD A LIFE OF MISERY.

Please, Norm. Appreciate your family.

It's more than I am likely to ever have, myself.

New I did not know
about your situation. I appreciate my family, I am doing what I can to keep us together and keep a roof over our heads. I had to file for disability because I was too sick to work, enough to make a house payment and have my wife's salary pay for te rest.

One day, I hope you find the right woman and have kids of your own.

Kids are a lot of work, I've found that out with my son of mine and babysitting my nieces and nephews from time to time.

New I'm Mr. Mom too...
On Saturdays, my wife works and I'm Daddy DayCare for my 3 kids, age 7 1/2, 6, and 2 1/2.

I joked with a friend of mine that maybe that's what I should do. I'll start a Daddy DayCare, because I've raised three kids (oldest to age 8), so know exactly what to do with each age kid.

My thought was to start a Daddy DayCare for 2nd shift workers ( 2 - 10, 3 - 11), since most day cares focus exclusively on first shift. Locate near a hospital. If the facility isn't full, accept hourly drop-ins in the evening for dates and stuff, too.

If you love kids, Normon, then maybe it's a career. I'm sure you can do better than Eddie Murphy, anyway.

New Daddy Daycare
I don't think I can handle that many kids. God gave me only one son for a reason, as that I can't handle two or more of them. Some day maybe I can have another child with my wife, but she is getting old as well, she's 36 and I am 35. Medicine I am on makes it almost impossible to have more children, I've been sterilized by it as a side-effect, but the medicine works.
