New The ones who wanted Saddam left in power...
...was you lot, ten years ago.

But then he outlived his usefulness, and the murderous behaviour which we had initially tolerated, then encouraged, then financed (until he invaded Kuwait, of course) was used as the stick with which to beat him.

But hey. We "won". (even though no declaration of war was made, making the UK/US action on a par with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1981).

And we've^H^H^H^H^HHalliburton has got the oil. Woohoo!

I'm real proud, ya hear me, boy?

Your hypocrisy is really quite sickening. The fact you take pride in this shit is disturbing.

New Re: The ones who wanted Saddam left in power...
Well, actually, Maggie wanted to remove him (just like Winston Churchill wanted to remove Stalin) but we didn't have a UN mandate for it, and we foolishly abided by the UN.

Recently, it's been a case of, "Let's screw as many concessions out of the US as possible for our help." Turkey is the most obvious example here. Let's not even go into France and Germany.

Saddam was an evil man who supported terrorism - harbouring terrorists, and providing financial and material aid - and did not hesitate to use WMD. Previous policy towards him is irrelevant.
qts
New What terrorists, what WMD?
If previous policy is irrelevant, there is no excuse for the invasion. Saddam hasn't gassed anybody since we stopped making excuses on his behalf, hasn't invaded anybody in over a decade. The "reliable intelligence" has yet to lead our troops to any solid evidence of either a significant connection to any active terrorist group, or any WMD.

Yeah, he's a bad guy who we should never have installed in the first place. But if you think any of the reasons given had any influence on anybody in the White House other than the Press Secretary, well, you probably had to look up Iraq on a map when it invaded Kuwait, and never read the back-story. He hasn't done anything in the last couple of years that wasn't excused by a Republican administration in the 30 years before.

----
Whatever
New No, not me lot. But *you* wanted him left there this year.
Slandering your opponent isn't going to get you out of this. You're on record.

DEAL WITH IT.
I helped depose Saddam. Did you?
When the facts speak for themselves, only a fool insists on having a debate.
The future is leaving the station, the US is at the throttle, and the Left isn't on board.

New What's special about Saddam?
When's GWB and the Rumperor gonna deal with Mugabe or any one of a hundred dictators who torture their citizens and have been for a long time?

Or isn't there anything worth exploiting in Africa?

In other news, France sends peacekeeping troops to Congo. Which is more than the US has done.

New Golly, you're so impatient.
But I must say I admire your newfound warmongering imperialist spirit. Assuming, of course, that you're sincere. I gotta go into my grandfather's old stuff and see if I can find that prewar edition of Encyclopedia Brittanica. Those maps are faded, but still useful. A few minor adjustments will be called for. For instance, let's not give the Congo to the Belgians this time. Not after what happened last time. And of course we want to shut out those asshole French and Germans. Give Libya back to Italy. Give all of Morocco to Spain (I think we can forgive their past misguided experiment with a foreign legion) and give them back Guinea. Throw something Poland's way, maybe Namibia and Tanzania, as a dig at Germany. And [link|http://www.dangedo.com/dualehdokument4.htm|let Denmark have Somalia]. Let's tentatively grant continued independence to South Africa. The rest we divvy up amongst the Anglosphere.

Meanwhile, I hear the French and the UN are, um, addressing the situation. Not much comfort there. They're sending a thousand MRE's, or as they call them, troops.
