New Mozilla, Eudora

Both will run on your HW and with Win98. Mozilla's got some nice spam filtering. Not sure about the tree grouping of addresses. Mozilla can tap into MAPI to suck in your MS Outlook files (note that this isn't an MSOE import utility, it's Mozilla using the MSFT APIs for this trick, only works under Windows, can't do it on Linux).

New Grouping of addresses
Mozilla Mail doesn't do grouping, not that I can see in 1.3 anyway. I've checked it three times, and tried to see if there was an option for groups. I did not see one.

Eudora may be different, I haven't used it in a while. The free Version of Eudora, shows advertisement, you have to pay to make the ads go away. I'll download it and check it out when I find the time to do so. [link|http://www.eudora.com/|http://www.eudora.com/]

New Mozilla can do multiple address books
not exactly tree-view, but it might fit your requirements.

In Mozilla bring up the Address Book by selecting it under the WINDOW menu. If the hot-keys are the same then CTRL-5 should bring it up.

While viewing the address book, choose the FILE menu, NEW sub menu, ADDRESS BOOK option. Give it a name(family, friends, whatever).

I just tried it out, seems to work fine.

New Re: Mozilla, Eudora
I have used Eudora a long time and it seems to really be great. (After pretty much eliminating it as the memory drainer). I think that it's great because you can set up really good spam filters, and have all kinds of groups of addresses. I have multiple address lists in different folders.

I don't know what it would do in regards to Outlook, but I can tell you it is easily forwarded to, and also allows you to have more than one ISP to choose from to dial into or connect to (We have two), and multiple email addresses to use as well. Of course, you have to have more than one ISP for this, but the point is it accomodates it.

I think Eudora is the best email program I've ever used so far, and it easily allows me to save to the hard drive, something a lot of others failed to do.
