That is the way all RN Brits I know, describe the RN, even in Oz we knew & used that term.
It is an old word dating back to the earliest days of the RN when it was manned by jolly jack-tar(s). There is a bar (or a brand of Rhum, or both) on an Island in the caribean called Pussars & I wondered if the word related somehow to Rum & the traditional Rum tot (was that still being done in your days? - Senior Service fags & a tot of raw Rhum (I understood it was so thick it was cut with a knife as it was poured, as well as being so overproof it needed extensive watering down - I heard it was also used to heal wounds + raise the dead (for one last fight))).
AS for Naafi - not really related to my post other than Naafi fed people shyte <grin>
But the idiot my barb was aimed at just earned it yet again in World Conflict Forum
Cheers
