New Passenger air traffic to resume today...sorta
According to WGN radio, commercial air traffic is supposed to be able to resume at 1100a EDT, but only after the airlines and the aorports implement "significant security restrictions". No one seems to know (or, they do know but are not saying) what these "significant security restrictions" are.

Any links?

New No links but listening to radio myself
There are some outstandingly stupid things being thrown around. No curbside checkin, for instance. Now for Pete's sake what the hell does that have to do with the four hijackings Tuesday? No knives (even Swiss army knives) allowed past the security checkpoint. Oh, like this would have prevented someone from claiming they had a bomb.

Every increased security "precaution" I've heard has been utterly stupid and ineffective.
That no man should scruple, or hesitate a moment to use arms in defense of so valuable a blessing [as freedom], on which all the good and evil of life depends, is clearly my opinion; yet arms ... should be the last resource. - George Washington
New I'm hoping,
That these idiocies are SO STUPID they don't last long.

Yes, I want security.

But this is ineffective - just like that last changes -who admitted to not packing their luggage? Who admitted it being out of their sight - who actually had a picture ID *scrutizined*?

And it didn't even slow them down.

Here in RDU, they're closed. People have cars at the airport, with various needed things in them. Tough. Can't get 'em.

Logan at least *towed* all the cars out and let people get theirs - and hell, they're at the starting point of this!

Oh, and RDU has said they "haven't decided" if they're going to waive charges for all the storage, even.

I won't say a lynching is needed, but I think tar and feathers would be in order.

At Albuquerque Sunport, all cars were towed away from the airport, at no charge to the owner(s)

Like at Logan - tow them to the outer lots, let owners come get them with ID.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

New Nice touch is...
..not charging the owners for the tow

New New Mexico is always a little bit more civilized...
...Certainly more so than their immediate eastern neighbor!

(And damn fine-lookin' license plates, too!)

New Who? Us?
This little third world banana republic down here?

We're only more 'civilized' because we're too laid back to care to make much trouble.

Always used to take me a day to adjust from San Fransico pace to New Mexico pace when I'd come back from ezboard

...Certainly more so than their immediate eastern neighbor!

That part is very true!

Thank you :)

Neither did Logan, and I'm sure, anybody else.

Decent ways to deal with the shitty situation. I commend them.

As opposed to my opinions on RDU's managing body.

Addison
New RDU?!?
Wherezzat?

A Washington Post story [link|http://a188.g.akamaitech.net/f/188/920/15m/www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A20929-2001Sep12.html|here]. It certainly doesn't sound like it'll help much in situations like those encountered Tuesday...

Cheers,
Scott.
New ORD not open yet...
It's 17:20 here, and my office building is directly in the flight path to Chicago-O'Hare, and about 5 miles from the airport. We usually can't have the windows open because the planes make too much noise. It's been......eerily quiet the past couple of days out here along Route 83, where the trucks now make the most noise.

New Re: ORD not open yet...
Yeah, according to CNN, of the U.S.'s major airports, only Logan and ORD are closed, and the two Wash DC airports are open, but are not ticketing passengers.

I understand Logan, I understand WashDC. I don't understand ORD. (unless I consider that the people running the place are a bunch of patrongage fatasses who, when required to do real work are blitheringly incompetent and incapable of performing the task.

Illinois is the most corrupt state in the union (with the ever-so-slightly possible exception of Louisiana).
