New Texas AG...
...also set up to report and prosecute price gouging. Personally, I think the $5/gallon gas is just an Urban Legend. Locally, WalMart actually reduced their prices yesterday.

Gas is still considerably cheaper here in Texas than the rest of the country, ranging from $1.35 to $1.45 per gallon. Helps being near production and refineries, I suppose.

New Urban Legend
Actually, one station here had their price jacked up to $6.00 (SIX) a gallon. Back down to $1.99 today. District manager claimed that it was an unauthorized price and that no gas was sold at that price.

New Wasn't an urban legend here
The gas station involved quickly backtracked, though. Oh, and technically, I think it was only $4.99 or $4.89 or something like that.
That no man should scruple, or hesitate a moment to use arms in defense of so valuable a blessing [as freedom], on which all the good and evil of life depends, is clearly my opinion; yet arms ... should be the last resource. - George Washington
New Out of Regular/MidGrade, Plenty of Super
The Texas I visited in Frisco had lines, out of Regular/MidGrade (Unleaded), but they had plenty of Super at $1.67, so we filled up.

There were gas lines at most stations on my 50 mile trip home yesterday, but no gas lines today. I did not stop to see if it was because everyone filled up yesterday (so everyone has a full tank), or if most of these stations were out of gas. I think there's plenty of gas, just a bunch of scared people yesterday.

I will have to fill up tomorrow, 'cause I'm down to 1/3 tank. (3 days, 1 tank, 300 miles).

SUPER at $1.67?!?!?!

Damn, must be nice.

I just filled up tonight at $1.84 for the regular (lowest-grade) stuff. 15.6 gallons, over $25.
