Hey Alex, a document that might make ME sense

It makes sense as initial solution.
This: 5. The state of Palestine will be unarmed and the international community will guarantee its security. make the Palestinian state second rate. I can understand the condition from the Israeli paranoia (or even "master race") point of view, but it needs a statue of limitations. If the Palestinian state behaves for some period of time, say ten years, it should be lifted. No one can expect the Palestinians would be interested in arming themselves to the incredible degree that Israel is. Alex

after 10 yrs of peace the economy of the 2 would be so intertwined that Palestinians might volunteer to join the Israeli forces to make sure the economic powerhouse of COMBINED palestinian and israeli is never threatened.

In a century
The IDF and the Palestinians might form one defense force in a century or two, but not in 10 years.
Even after a decade of peace, 1/2 their militaries will be dedicated to the task of keeping the itchy triggers on their own side under control.

Second rate would be a step up for them.
And nobody with a lick of sense would trust these yahoos with guns.
Give `em their own state and they'll have a lot harder time scapegoating others for their own incompetence. On the other hand, if they get WMDs, they're a major liabilty for the civilized world.

Valid points - suggesting that, the obv way of coaching
those with little experience of self government, is that there finally be a planet-wide University, whose proctors may spank. No Special Buddies who are exempt from self discipline. (Natch the nukes would have to be taken away from *all* the kiddies.. OOoooohh what a loss of personal freedom.) The end of the rich schoolyard bully / or the rise of the University as Gort?
(WTF did you ever get the idea that this stuff was so easy you could solve it with some stupid slogan or rote formula? Nintendo Basic?)

This '51 movie at least limned the question: "how do you stop yourselves from suicidal actions.." (when you are at least honest enough to admit that you have a tendency towards such) ?
Gort the robot was of course - the Deus-ex which fills in for any homo-sap having yet a very good idea of how we save ourselves from ourselves. The dilemma may not be answerable, but the Q is as valid today as in '51 - the UN was a start, as was the powerless League of Nations.. all indicating that 'we' realize we have a Problem.
But we are not yet ready for self-government, it appears. Only Nationalism, My Clan vs Your Clan and the usual cant.
You got a better idea for survival of the species VS the ~50K nukes + our hysterical habits of brandishing same? Any original thought at all?
