The above link was one I posted in Hardware re a USB2/FireWire combo disk box I bought yesterday. It has proven terrific for the Mac iBook.
I put a 30GB 2.5 in IBM Travelstar disk in it. Formatted it on a WindowsMe machine - fat32, using USB 1.1. Attached it via FireWire to iBook which immediately recognised it. I used Disk util to partition it into 2 equal partitions & then installed another copy of OS 9.1 on one of them.
When I boot & hold Options key down I can boot off the plugged in FireWire disk - the same disk can be used on Windows as the 2nd partition will be a bucket repository for both machines.
Very neat. FireWire data transfer is rocket fast. Seems to be equal or maybe better than the iBook's native 10GB disk.
Cheers
