Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Did you try this?
Install SP1 and 2 before you use Office at all
Having it on many 2K machines here some would not run it properly before the SPs were applied
the best time to apply is right after a new install

New Bingo.... (Edited to be what I meant)
Plus make sure W2K Sp3 is installed LAST.

Office 2000 SR1 and SR2 have to be installed... like Nt4 sp1-4 were. Consecutively

To address concern about being mislead (including my own concerns...)

edit: Hopefully made it more coherent.

New Got my work cut out...
I did install the w2k patches. But not SP1 and SP2. Just SP3. I'm used to having the most recent SP contain all the previous patches...

Oh well. Good thing I have cable modem access. Will wipe computer and restart... :(

New No... not for W2K....
For Office 2K. Service Release 1 and 2 need to be installed consecutively, unless you get a fully patched install media with O2K SR-2 compiled in.

That is your major problem. If you update your OS to Service Pack three... do that LAST!

Here is the order in which to install IFFN you gonna Wipe!

W2K - Default install no patches
O2K - Full "Run from HardDisk" install
O2K - SR1 let it do it's thing
O2K - SR2 let it do it's thing
Windows Update get
SP3 first
Then either IE 5.5sp2 or IE 6 sp1
Then all the other "criticals"
DO update to DirectX8.0a as Office uses DirectX now
Don't get Windows Media Player 9... it is FSCK'd with DRM in it now and it seems to have broken Roxio Cd Creator Platinum... GRRR!
Then what ever you want "reccomended" and drivers...

Lotsa work indeed though. You could cut out the Wipe and reload, just make sure you re-apply W2K-SP3.

Have fun!

New Er, no.
W2K service packs don't work in the way NT4 ones did.

If you apply a W2K service pack, then when you add bits to Windows, the service pack files are used instead of the original ones from the W2K install CD.

If you're feeling really lazy, you can slipstream the service pack into your W2K installation directory.
