The debate on how to confront Islamism, then and now
[link|http://www.theonion.com/onion3838/history_3838.html|The same old argument]
So, now that we're all 22 years older, and some of us are 22 years wiser, do things look any different? Which position resonates more strongly? More importantly, which makes more sense?
(And why not do both?)

Look up "October Surprise"
Reagan's actions and words do not appear to have met.
See also "Iran-Contra Affair"...

Stop confronting him with facts.
After all, he only believes what confirms his own view of the universe. A confirmed narcissist if I ever saw one.

Oh, real good comeback.
I see you're actually attempting to deal with criticism by attacking the person, instead of actually dealing with the accusations. Instead, why don't you actually answer some of the critiques of your posts in Politics or War on Terror, instead of letting them sit there and blow holes in your little "Ivory Tower Intellectual" world?

What criticism?
You attack the person in your usual peevish way, I advise you to get some sleep, and you accuse me of doing what you did.
Damn, you're cranky. And you're as devoid of a sense of irony as Ben Tilly here. (And that's saying a lot, seeing as even the most obvious irony whooshes right past him.) Gulp down some Advil and take a long nap. It can't hurt. Or at least stay away from the humor forum. Chee whiz.

Sorry, that was unfair

Fair enough, but...
unfairness doesn't much bug me anymore. I'm used to it. I just note it in passing and move on.
It scares me a bit when people don't appreciate irony, though. Maybe that's unfairness on my part, for which case I offer a conditional apology. But the people I've known in the flesh who didn't get irony sometimes turned out to be, well, dangerous. And the ones who got irony never turned out to be dangerous. And so, rightly or wrongly, I use it as a litmus test, until something better comes along.
(Yes, there's such a thing as bogus irony. But I'm not a pomo. And there's such a thing as facile irony. But I'm not a Subgenius.)
