It presents Karzai in a light that is almost flattering. That's going a bit far for my taste.

Also, I have to think that higher-ups at the NSC and the White House know all this stuff and have no illusions about what Pakistan's been up to. It's just they have little choice but to deal with them as best they can.

(IIRC, W threatened Pakistan with war if they didn't kinda-sorta join up with us after 9/11. One doesn't do that to people one thinks are "good guys".)

Pakistan is unstable, has been run by the military for ages, and has nuclear weapons. Nobody knows what chaos would follow a violent overthrow of the government. It also had 150M+ people in 2000. Going to war with them is a big and dangerous undertaking.

Even with all of that I'll probably put her book on the list.
