New Some recent update is killing my battery
Anyone heard of any recent Android updates that might be the culprit?

Drew
New Don't you have a doodad
that breaks out battery usage into an unfeasibly detailed chart?
New Yup ... sorta
It shows a chart of total usage over time, and by app total percentage, but doesn't show usage over time by app. It also doesn't show me how today's numbers are different from yesterday's numbers, which is what I really need.

Only thing I notice is that "Google services" is higher in the listings than I've noticed before, but the total usage doesn't seem enough to account for the difference. Screen is still 70%, but I haven't been using it more than usual.

New I just experienced this...
and so did my wife and my two daughter and my oldest's husband.

As of about yesterday, all of us are fine again.

Before the magical update I was getting about 48 hours out of my phone's battery

After the magical update I was getting *MAYBE* 14 hours out of my phone's battery, well less if I really did anything with it.

After the last magical update/revert I am now getting a pace of 48 hours out of my phone's battery.

It lasted about 2 weeks for me, 5-6 days for the wife, 3 days for my oldest, about 5 days her husband... about 1 month for my youngest... which she thought her battery was toast and got a new phone since hers was non-replaceable, much to her chagrin, it went with her account.

Wife and I in GRR (Grand Rapids), My oldest and her husband are in TYS (Knoxville), youngest is in SNA (John Wayne Airport or LA Basin).

New Bet it's Google running your GPS to track you.
You need location based ads, don't you know.

But that's just a SWAG.
Alex
New I had GPS and Location services...
On before everything started, turned off... during... made no difference.

I have GPS, Location Services and 4G LTE all on right now and I have been on battery for 1 day 7 hours, 15 minutes, 17 s and I still have 58% of my battery left. Bluetooth is off... I don't have it connected to anything atm anyway.

in order (and I know it adds up to 103, always does for some reason)

Phone Standby 35%
Cell Standby 25%
Screen 15%
Google Services 6%
WiFi 6%
Android OS 6%
Chrome 4%
Voice Calls 3%
Gmail 3%

So, it isn't what you think might be happening.

New Here's some interesting news
which is relevant, if not entirely on topic:

http://www.huffingto...ds_n_4138197.html

Bell is going to start doing heavy tracking on its networks for its users in Canada.

I'm wondering if their long-term thinking guys haven't twigged that Google could be a threat to them, and that there's money to be made providing similar services. Why let Google collect all that money, amirite or amirite?

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out up here. People have been ranting on facebook for a couple of days about this. Still and all, there's a strong argument to be made that using Bell or some similar Canadian entity for these services means your data is held by a Canadian company subject to Canadian law and Canadian courts.

I don't want it to be Bell, though... they suck.

New You'll probably never know.
But I'd blame Google Play Services. It's been discovered in the last few months that Google is using that to a) upgrade the APIs of handsets that OEMs have abandonend and b) implement a walled garden of Google apps. It is essential for more and more Google services and, importantly for this discussion, updates itself silently.

Wade.

New That would be the "Google services", now up to 10%

New They've renamed it already? I shouldn't be surprised.

New UPDATE: seems to be mostly resolved
I've been plugging in whenever I can so I don't know how long I can go, but the numbers haven't been getting as low.

New Something that may help...
It has gotten a *LOT* better than it was even 8 weeks ago...

"Advanced Task Killer Free"

Set it to "Aggressive" and have it auto-kill every 1/2 hour.

Seems to really extended my battery to be able to live almost 3 days now.
