New TOD: Death of a battery.
A story about a home solar power setup, not a Tesla. ;-)

Lots of good information if you're thinking about home solar and wonder what's involved.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Deep cycle batterries can be tricky.
The battery service life depends greatly on how deeply they are discharged. Getting below 50% charge on a regular basis really hurts.

My RV's "house" (vs truck) batteries are 2 Trojan-105 220 Ah 6 volt batteries connected in series. They are charged by the truck alternator (via an isolator) while driving, street power when plugged in at a campground (via a converter), and by solar power (160 Watts max via a controller) whenever the sun shines.

A couple years ago I installed a battery monitor which measures all current in and out. We were going to be "off the grid" for 9 days at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and I wanted to limit my electronic toy usage if necessary. No problems!
