New I could care less about the 386 chip . . .
. . so long as 32-bit is supported. A VAR I prepare Debian servers for needs 32-bit because he hasn't been able to get the C compiler he has to use to work properly on 64-bit machines.
New 32-bit isn't going anywhere.
486 is still supported. To drop 32-bit would mean losing everything before Core 2, and that's just not going to happen, for ages and ages at least.
