Speaking of the jump ...
Anyone seen any details on how far he landed from the launch point?

AP story.

He activated his parachute as he neared Earth, gently gliding into the desert about 40 miles east of Roswell and landing smoothly. I would have thought there would be some indication in Google Earth of the launch point, but I haven't been able to find it. HTH. Cheers, Scott. |

That's all I can find, too
It's hard to imagine he didn't set a new record for longest horizontal displacement from the jump point.

Dunno. There are lots of ballon records, etc.
One could imagine lots of reasons why the landing point would have been far from the start even without breaking the fall record.
The Wikipedia page is pretty good (and one would think it would be updated over time) - http://en.wikipedia..../Red_Bull_Stratos - and has the starting coordinates listed on this page - http://toolserver.or...:US-NM_type:event That's all I've found. Cheers, Scott. |

Jetstream on the way up
At some point, the balloon was going east at ~120 mph. Later on it picked up westerly winds at about 20 mph.
