E-1 (Private) makes $1491.00/month. Yes, you also get room and board, medical, etc. etc. etc., which is worth something. But barracks living might be worth $200/mo, food another $200 (assuming most kids that age will still eat out regularly). It's better than working at KFC, but you need some discipline to really take advantage of all the non-pay benefits. --
