New Ubuntu hangs after upgrading to VirtualBox 4.1.4
I've got Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity. It's been working fine. I just took the update to VirtualBox 4.1.4, and now Unity hangs after login. Memory usage for the vBox keeps climbing steadily until I kill it.

I turned off 3D acceleration and Classic desktop works fine. I know I went through some issues getting Unity work, but all the settings I found there are still set.

Any ideas?

New Why did you upgrade to VBox 4.1.4?
The old adage says: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Dunno how or why... sorry.

Have you tried a different Virtual Machine to see if it also exhibits the same issues? If it does exhibit, then, I'd be guessing its either a driver issue or a video display issue for X/Wayland (if they are using that already).

New Just keeping current
I had another virtual machine that I had set up while trying to get Unity working the first time. That still worked for Classic, so I dist-upgraded to see what happened. Guess what? No Unity worky there either.

I'll keep playing around bit by bit, see what I can poke at.
