I suspect I'll do that next year
Mom's new 11" MacBook Air sure is snappy, even with that slow CPU, so I'm sold on the idea of getting an SSD drive. However, I'm looking at a new 17" MBP this year, but can't see spending an extra $1100 for a large enough SSD for my needs. I suspect it'll be a lot more affordable next year as SSD competition seems to be ramping up, so I'm planning to replace the drive then.

Can they do two drives?
I've seen lots of people in the video production field who use an SSD for the OS and apps, and a second drive (internal or firewire) for data.

Yeah, can use external drives w/out any problem
I use the 800 FireWire for my Time Machine drive. However, I'd prefer not to for data as it means it's more of a hassle when traveling (especially when I visit my brother - he has 4 boys).
I could always go this route and replace the optical with another drive, but likewise I'd rather leave it in place as I still use it often enough. http://eshop.macsale...puting/DDAMBS0GB/ |

Micron RealSSD SATA III drive ... benchmarked at about double AppleÂs BTO option(!!) on read speed (450MB/sec) and 50% faster writes (260MB/sec). |
