New Poll: interest in iwethey.org webmail accounts?
How many people would be interested in a webmail iwethey.org e-mail account?

I don't know specifics yet on implementation, but I, personally, use everyone.net for their free webmail mail hosting. But, it uses Javascript and has pop-ups for the free service (ick).

Has anyone used any good web-based e-mail front-ends?

Let me know! I've got this MX record that's just burning a hole in my pocket. ;)

New Cool idea, one thing though
I've always thought a time limit on saved messages would be a better idea than a space limit. Well, I suppose you'd have to do a transfer-per-day limit too, to avoid being a pr0n/warez clearinghouse. But I know I've got stuff on my Yahoo account that I haven't seen in months just because I don't have the time to sort through it all. If I haven't saved it after two months, odds are I don't really need it.

So if you go ahead with it, I'd set a time limit on storage.
This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
New Not really.
I keep some stuff because that's where I store it, so I'll have it wherever.

There's lots of stuff I keep on Yahoo for reference (I just go through and wipe out the chaff every so often).

(nice thing about Yahoo, you can sort by size).

Of course, if we do it, we should do something like Hushmail. :)

So it can't be used as evidence against us. :)

New Here's an interesting webmail product:
SquirrelMail! ([link|http://www.squirrelmail.org/|http://www.squirrelmail.org/])

What is SquirrelMail?

SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP4. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no Javascript) for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure and install. SquirrelMail has a all the functionality you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation.

New How about POP3/IMAP access?
Webmail would be good, but have POP3/IMAP access as well. You could have them pay extra, like $10/year, for the POP3/IMAP access. Just make sure that you have quotas on the email, so people aren't sending 650M ISO images in their email and filling up your server drive. :)

The PHP based Webmail sounds good.

New Re: How about POP3/IMAP access?
I thought about that, actually, and just decided that I really don't want to open POP3/IMAP to the world.

Obviously, everything has holes and security vulnerabilities, but my thoughts are to just limit the open ports as much as possible.

With that in mind, I think webmail is the safest bet.

New You could also...
...offer a forwarder - so I could have mail addressed to "pwhysall@iwethey.org" that's forwarded to my regular email account.
