That vegans don't want to exploit bees? That's sure easy to find. Note that some vegans do construct a rational for using honey.

That agave nectar is used by vegans as a substitute for honey? Couldn't be easier.

That vitamin B12 content depends on the number of worms that died for your agave nectar?

Vegans have long searched for a natural plant source of vitamin B12 (for lack of which many vegans are a bit light headed, which they interpret as "more spiritual").

Back in the late 1970's William Shurtleff & Akiko Aoyagi were promoting Tempeh as the magic source, but when labs tested carefully controlled batches there was not B12 - it had come from insect (animal) contamination.

The next great B12 source was spirulina, but when that was carefully tested it turned out the B12 came from copepod (anima) contamination.

So it only stands to reason that if any B12 is found in agave nectar will come from crushed agave worms - and the more worms and the bigger and more healthy they are, the more B12.

The worms themselves are not a problem, they are gathered as a seasonal treat in parts of Mexico. The worm in some bottles of mezcal is prepared by a soak in pure alcohol before being put in the bottle - and yes, you are supposed to swallow it.
