The usher asked if I wanted to come in. I said no, I just wanted to listen when my daughter starts singing. Him: She's in the choir? Me: Not exactly. (She was invited back as a guest singer, she's not part of the school anymore. But no reason to tell him). Him: My daughter is in the the choir. Me: (smile and nod) Random passerby: My niece is in the choir. Me: (Smile and nod. There is a reason she's invited back to sing, most of the current people are terrible). She starts to sing. There is another voice as well, but not nearly as strong. She was given the spot in front of the mike, and the other person isn't near it. The usher's eyes glaze over, he gets a faraway look, and says "Oh my god, is that your kid?" Me: Yup. Everyone stops talking and listens and then makes the appropriate holy shit you must be proud noises. Me: Yup.
